Summer Experiments
07–15–2021
A series of experiments (ongoing) exploring the fluid properties of a castable material. Developed for the University of Arizona CAPLA over the summer of 2021. The prompt that resulted from these experiments was simple and led to a huge number of creative solutions from the students. We asked that each student develop two modules. Both with some kind of surface texture, and one with an opening. The opening should relate in someway to the texture and there needs to be a band of ‘no-texture’ somewhere near the bottom. These constraints helped provide the students a clear focus, and allowed students to iterate through a number of concepts. Photos were taken durrig class to document the process and later, used to produce photo collages.

XX Block
07–15–2016
This design was developed durring my time teaching at Columbia GSAPP with class TA Da Ying, This model served as a testbed or ‘class model’ to help explain more advnaced casting techniques to the class. Its unique geometry allowed the single module to be flipped and rotated in any direction to form the seemingly organic pettern you see. Numerous digital and physical prototypes were made, the final being fabricated on the CNC as two parts.

Polyblock
09–29–2010
An early experiment into casting, mold-making and 3d-printing, resulted in this novel block concept. Multidirectional and offset stackable. This module was designed to interlock with itself and also be waterproof, and mortarless... the number of constraints for this prompt was complex but the resultant solution, simple.

UNDO/REDO: eurorack module
04–23–2022
Developed with friend and colaborator Quin Kenedy.  A compact module able to send trigger signals within a looped amount of time defined by a clock/trigger input. Two tactile buttons and a knob provide the basic interface components. One button allows triggers to be entered, another enables recording of the triggers. The knob allows trigger inputs to be deleted, put back in, or overwritten. The led matrix on front provides a visual represtation and feedback of the current pattern. Useful for creating unquantized looping clocks, patterns and modulation sources.

In development and available to purchase soon.

LEAVES:  Set Design
03–11–2021
This project was developed with frequent music colaborator Rashad Bailey over the course of several weeks. Intended as a flexible framework and backdrop, this served as our set for numerous live recording sessions in Tucson Arizona over the summer of 2021. Design work included concept design, fabrication, interactive LED setup, and modular instrument design.
